I’m convinced that it’s not too far off to suggest that a green smoothie diet can offer just about all the components that the human body demands to maintain health. Besides maybe Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D, in my opinion, these healthful drinks supply everything (including protein). This biggest issue for me when I first started on green smoothies were the unhealthy cravings. See how I conquered them.
I wish to start by saying that this information is merely my opinion based on the information I have read regarding health and from more than a decade of living and eating the way I have on a daily basis. That and my blood work done twice each year which shows zero deficiencies, I think that this information is valid. Maybe it just works for me, my genetic makeup and my body type, I can’t say for certain. However, just like cigarette smoking will probably affect each one of us with varying degrees of health negatives, eating green smoothies, I believe, will probably affect each one of us with varying degrees of health positives. The body is supposed to be equipped to heal naturally right? Why is it that so many people are becoming and staying sick? Perhaps it is in inaccurate statement that the body is truly designed to heal itself? No! The problem is that we a) do not give it with the appropriate amount of raw materials, by way of diet for the most part, it requires to become whole again and b) we attack it with things that hinder the performance of the limited number of resources that we do give it.
I’m a huge advocate of the raw food lifestyle. To suggest that heating food over and above a certain temperature destroying required enzymes that are important for digestion makes plenty of sense to me. Beyond that, it is suggested that to get the most from our food that we should masticate it until it’s gone. We have troubles digesting large morsels of food. Also, I feel that humans can thrive off of a diet of mainly fruits and dark green leafy vegetables, with of course some healthy fats. For the healthy fats, avocados, soaked nuts and seeds is all I generally consume.
The main foods I have every single day consist of lots of raw fruits and green vegetables in the form of green smoothies. Smoothies, being essentially liquefied, my body is able to assimilate the nutrients without a problem.
A giant hurdle for some people when changing diets, and a huge one for me is handling cravings for bad foods. Just like a person addicted to drugs or alcohol must go through a detox so they can heal, we essentially must to do the same thing. Our cells consist of stuff from foods that we have ingested in the past. The body generally craves more of the same unhealthy foods that contribute to the contents of the individual sick cells in our bodies. With a drug detox, often times, sauna therapy is used to sweat the drugs out of the system. This usually helps to eliminate the physical drug cravings which will allow the individual an improved chance of staying sober. For us, improving our eating may very well enhance the clearing of toxic foods as well which can be quickly removed in our poop, through sweat and perhaps urine. However, we still might having cravings for those foods while some of the toxic elements in our cells are still present.
I find that quickly after having the first drink of my smoothie the cravings for grease, meat, salt, etc started to die away. After I was done drinking the smoothie, the unhealthy cravings passed completely and I would be content. The concern then was that the unhealthy cravings would return as I became hungry. So I started to make certain I was on top of it and would have another smoothie available before the cravings would come back, or not too long after they reared their ugly heads. The unhealthy cravings at last subsided for good as I cleaned out my system. Afterward I started to crave greens instead!
